UAE federal authorities have reduced the visa overstay fine to less than 50 Dirham, meaning tourists who stay in the country after their visa has expired will now face 50 Dirham per day fine instead of the 100 Dirham fine.

Meanwhile, the penalty for staying longer while in possession of a residency permit has been increased from 25 Dirham per day to 50 Dirham.

The new visa overstay penalty comes into effect from 03 October after the UAE government implemented new entry and residence visa rules. Earlier, the visa overstay penalty was calculated based on the type of visa expired.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security said, “the new system unified the number of overstay fines to Dh50 per day for any type of visa violator.”

“The overstay fine payment can be paid either by visiting happiness centres or online through the authority website and smart application,”
