United Airlines announced a commercial agreement with Denver-based aerospace company Boom Supersonic to add aircraft to its global fleet – a move that facilitates a leap forward in returning supersonic speeds to aviation.

The future of air travel now looks promising as United Airlines announced its plans to purchase 15 supersonic jets. The idea is to start passenger flights with these jets by 2029.

These planes will be tested by 2026, and are expected to carry passengers by 2029. The plane is named Overture. The 15 jets are being purchased by United Airlines from Boom Supersonic, a Denver-based aircraft manufacturer.

The Concorde's fate was doomed back in 2003 because of restrictions regarding aircraft flying at such high speeds, causing a sonic boom. It is reported that the Overture is expected to fly at twice the speed of Mach 1.7 compared to today's regular commercial jets.

The plane will be able to fly from Newark and New Jersey to London in just 3.5 hours. It is expected to take four hours to fly from Newark to Frankfurt and San Francisco to Tokyo in about 6 hours. Thus there is a huge reduction in the travel time of the passengers.

As per the need of the hour, which is sustainable travel, the aircraft aims to fly on sustainable aviation fuel, and that too 100% of it. With it being super sonic, plus zero carbon, flights look promising right now.
