Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) with an aim to increase connectivity in the region, two more international airports will be added in the north-eastern states at Imphal and Agartala.

Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh said that the Itanagar airport will start functioning by the end of the year and a facility is coming up at Kohima as well.

"At present, there is an international airport in Guwahati. We are also planning to build airports in Imphal and Agartala," Singh said at an event organized by 'Amazing Namaste'.

Singh admitted that he had never visited the North East till he took charge of the ministry, but in all his interactions since then, connectivity in the region was marked as a major issue.

Now the golden period of North East region has come. He said that as India looks to strengthen the economy in the post-covid times, it will start looking for sectors where you have unexplored avenues.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said that tourism is about the notion of a destination and alleged that there is a conspiracy to bring down India.

He also alleged that the previous governments at the Center were wary of China's threat, which led to the delay in the inauguration of a finished railway line in Arunachal Pradesh, which was finally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after coming to power in 2014.
