DGCA India announced that if all goes well, and the third wave of Covid-19 does not strike India, the country may resume scheduled international flight operations from coming January 2022.

Rupinder Brar, Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already allowed foreign tourists to come to India by chartered flights.

However, she added that the exact date for opening of international flights will be released by the Home Ministry and will be announced soon.

Several media reports have claimed that the Indian government may announce the date of resumption of international flights much earlier as more than half of the Indian population has received the first dose of the vaccine and the second phase of vaccination is in full swing.

The cases of Covid-19 are decreasing rapidly across the country. In such a situation, there is no reason why scheduled international flights should be suspended, media reports said.

Last week, the Indian government announced that it would start issuing fresh visas for foreign tourists from October 15. However, this is applicable only to those who enter India on e-tourist visa / tourist visa through chartered flights with effect from October 15, 2021.
