Indian government may resume the operation of regular international flights after a 23-month ban in March and also relax the travel rules for international passengers by March-April 2022.

Government sources said the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is in talks with the ministries of home and health to resume regular international flights to and from India.

International flights are set to resume soon as the aviation ministry has set an internal target of resuming services as domestic capacity touches 80% of pre-Covid flights.

But still final decision is yet to be taken on the resumption of scheduled international flights.

Significantly, in November 2021, the Government of India has announced that it will resume the operation of scheduled international flights with several countries from 15 December 2021. But due to the fear of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron, the Indian government had decided to resume scheduled international flights and now it has been extended for another month after the low down in coronavirus cases.

The suspension of regular international passenger flights in India is currently effective till February 28, 2022.

Currently, the ministries are holding meetings to discuss the resumption of scheduled operations and are hopeful of providing a flexible travel experience for passengers wishing to fly out of India.
