The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued Air Transport Circular (ATC)-01 of 2021 titled, “Unbundling of Services and Fees by Scheduled Airlines” according to which, certain services like preferential seating will be segregated and charged separately, has been allowed to do from passengers.

Such unconnected services are provided by airlines on an "opt-in" basis and are not mandatory in nature. There is also a provision for auto seat assignment for passengers who have not selected a seat for web check-in before the scheduled departure.

Scheduled domestic airlines are not charging any fee for completing the web check-in formalities.

As regards check-in at airports, Ministry of Civil Aviation has advised all scheduled airlines not to charge any additional amount for issue of boarding passes at airport check-in counters as it is not covered under 'tariff' may be considered. Under Rule 135 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation/Directorate General of Civil Aviation is receiving complaints regarding air transport. The matter is redressed as per the established mechanism / extant guidelines.
