Portugal has become the country to welcome leisure travellers from the United States. The US embassy and consulate in Portugal made the announcement on Tuesday. It said tourists from the US would be allowed to enter the country, but would have to provide proof of a negative covid-19 test.

Americans wishing to travel to Portugal must show their negative RT-PCR test reports taken within the last 72 hrs before boarding. A rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of boarding is also valid.

So far, Portugal has imposed several restrictions throughout the country. First and foremost is the mask. Tourists are required to wear face masks at all times, be it on the beach or any other public place. Then comes social distancing and, on beaches.

According to the US embassy and consulate in Portugal, social distancing measures and masks are in place in all closed public areas. As far as flights are concerned, United Airlines has become the first US airline to resume flights to Portugal.

Portugal is a beautiful European country, famous for its beaches, cafes and restaurants. Currently, all cafes and restaurants in the country are open, but limited to indoor groups of 6 people and outdoor groups of 10 people.
