Coronavirus pandemic has prompted many travellers to pay extra attention to safety while planning their summer vacation. While there's no way to completely eliminate the risk from your next get away, here's a look at some of the safest destinations across the country based on covid-19 infection and crime rates, as well as a few other important metrics.

New York


According to SafeWise, which recently looked at violent crime and property crime statistics from 2019, the areas around New York City are among the safest places in the country, with 39 of America's safest cities located within 50 miles of the Big Apple. 

WalletHub found that New York City saw the second-lowest traffic fatalities per capita last year and ranks first nationwide in terms of the most law enforcement employees per capita.

Boston, Massachusetts


After New York City, Boston boasts the second largest number of safe suburbs, with 19 located within 50 miles, SafeWise determined. Overall, Massachusetts includes 17 cities on the list, second only to New Jersey. 

As the weather improves in the summertime, visitors to Boston and its surrounding cities and suburbs can look forward to some unique experiences, including the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail that travels through 16 Nationally Important Historic Sites.

Washington, DC


Starting June 11, capacity restrictions will be lifted at Washington, DC bars and nightclubs as well as large sports and entertainment venues, giving visitors even more options for summer travel.

Hawaii


Hawaii has one of the lowest covid-19 test positivity rates in the country during the summer months and is still welcoming visitors through the Safe Travel pre-travel testing program that ensures all out-of-state visitors to have a negative covid-19 test result to escape the state's mandatory 10-day quarantine, regardless of vaccination status.

Dallas-Fort, Texas


The North Texas cities of Frisco, McKinney and Plano are three of the five safest cities in America in 2021, according to the latest research from SmartAsset, which analyzed metrics such as violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality is, mortality from drug poisoning and percentage of the population engaging in excessive drinking. Frisco has the fourth lowest violent crime rate among the 200 cities SmartAsset examined.

Raleigh, North Carolina


The capital city of North Carolina made the top 10 on WalletHub's list of America's safest cities for 2020 and is ranked 32nd on SmartAsset's list of the safest cities across America for 2021. 

In addition to being a safe setting, Raleigh boasts something for every type of traveller. A plethora of outdoor activities and attractions, along with history buffs, food and art enthusiasts alike, ideal for visitors looking for a socially distant experience this summer.

Silicon Valley, California


In Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale ranks as the safest city in America for 2021. According to SafeAsset, the city boasts the 21st lowest violent crime rate in the country. Meanwhile, nearby San Jose is tied for the 10th safest city in the country this year, tying Sunnyvale for vehicular mortality, drug poisoning death rate, and percentage of the population that engages in excessive drinking. Also, California is eyeing a full reopening from June 15.

Alaska


Like Hawaii and Washington, D.C., Alaska currently has the lowest COVID-19 test positivity rates in the country. The Last Frontier in Juno It is one of the safest cities in the world. 

The dream destination of outdoor enthusiasts, Alaska's capital ranks 21st among 182 U.S. cities that WalletHub researched for safety last year.
