People are amazed with horror as the pictures of Manali reveal how huge crowds descended on the hill town. Also, the heat in the North Indian plains is also the reason for this tourism boom at a time when India is fearing the third wave of covid-19.

The Himachal Pradesh government had announced the relaxation of lockdown restrictions last month. Now neither e-Covid pass nor negative RT-PCR test report is required, thus prompting more people to enter Manali.

The sudden spurt in tourism in Manali has caused many people to fear another devastating third wave, as social distancing norms are being flouted.

This boom in tourism is now being linked to a journey of revenge, in which someone takes revenge for the months of lockdown. But in reality, it is the depressing pictures that remind us that we are not very serious about the situation of covid-19 in the country. While the unlocking is mostly done for the resumption of local businesses, it is up to the people to tread carefully.

A few days back, we saw horrific pictures of people queuing up in large numbers to visit a fort in Maharashtra, and there was a similar social media ruckus. Still, that didn't stop the mass tourism growth in Manali this month.
