New Zealand will not open its borders this year. Referring to this, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden said that the country's border will remain closed at least until the end of this year.

Jacinda said the government would accelerate the coronavirus vaccination program to prepare for the reopening of its borders in a phased manner.

She stressed that as of now, the priority was to vaccinate the country's population by the end of 2021.

New Zealand is seen as one of the most successful countries in the world in controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

As the country reopens next year, vaccinated travellers from low-risk countries will be able to visit the country without the need to undergo quarantine, while those from high-risk countries will either undergo quarantine or self-isolate.

New Zealand has managed to contain the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, for which the Prime Minister has won praise for the way he has handled the pandemic.

Reports say that the lockdown and strict border controls are among the strict measures that have managed to keep the infection rate low.
