Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India on Tuesday announced that the restriction on domestic flight capability will be lifted from 18 October 2021. This means that domestic carriers will be allowed to operate their flights at full capacity.

The announcement comes after the daily domestic passenger traffic crossed the 3 lakh mark over the weekend.

Last month, the aviation ministry allowed domestic airlines to increase the capacity of their pre-Covid domestic flights to 85 per cent instead of 72.5 per cent.

In a written statement it is mentioned that, "After review of the current status of Scheduled Domestic Operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel”, the ministry has been decided to “restore the scheduled domestic all operations with effect from 18-10-2021 without any capacity restriction,"

Indian government had now limited domestic flight capacity for about 17 months, since they were first imposed in May 2020 following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
