Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has announced latest rules for all international arrivals. Sharing an update, it said that all tourists visiting the island nation must have a valid travel insurance policy.

Ministry elaborated that all tourist visa holders will now need a mandatory Sri Lanka COVID-19 insurance coverage that can be purchased online or on arrival.

All tourist visa holders traveling to the island nation will not have to compulsorily take out travel insurance coverage of a minimum of US $ 50,000, which includes hospitalization cover for COVID-19 treatment.

Tourists from 31 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Germany, who have failed to make credit card payments for Electronic Travel Authorization for travel to Sri Lanka due to the ongoing upgrade and maintenance of the ETA front. End system, as an alternate channel, will be issued ETA on arrival.

CASL said that passengers can purchase the said policy cover from www.portal.pionline.lk/covidinsurance. However, holders of Sri Lankan passports will be exempted from this requirement and will not require COVID-19 insurance coverage during their travel to Sri Lanka.

COVID-19 insurance coverage will not be required to board the aircraft. But, after arrival in Sri Lanka, if the tourist visa holder does not have COVID-19 insurance coverage of at least US $ 50,000, they will have to purchase the policy before leaving the respective airport in Sri Lanka.
