UAE recently updated its travel naming policy, stating that travelers traveling to and from the Emirates must ensure that their passport contains both their primary (first name) and secondary (surname) names.

These new rules sparked much debate among travelers, and have forced the UAE to revise the policy and provide an exemption for travelers who only have one name on their passport.

Exemption For Tourists With One Name On Passport

UAE allows travelers who already have a visa and have their father/family name on their passport. In addition, such visitors would be eligible for Visa on Arrival.
  1. Passengers having same name on passport but issued more than one visa i.e. family name or father's name and family name or father's name on passport will be allowed to travel.
  2. Passengers having same name on passport and eligible for Visa on Arrival and having family name or father's name on passport will be allowed to travel.
This means that if your passport only has your single name and your father’s or family name on the last page and your visa to the UAE has already been issued, you can travel. If your visa is not issued by November 21, you will only be able to travel if you are eligible for the Visa-On-Arrival.
