Federal National Council (FNC) of the UAE recently approved the extension of the employment visa from two years to three years. The decision was taken in response to a request made by the FNC committee to reduce the financial burden involved in obtaining a work permit.

Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation currently issues work permits in the UAE for a period of two years. It is important to note that working in the country without a valid permit is strictly prohibited.

On the other hand, the FNC Committee on Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs advocated extending the period to three years to speed up the process and reduce costs for individuals and enterprises. This recommendation was adopted by the FNC, indicating significant changes in the labor market.

The FNC Committee also made several other suggestions to enhance the efficiency and flexibility of the work permit system. Among these recommendations is the exemption of work permit fees for job changes, which aims to facilitate greater mobility for employees within the UAE.

Another accepted proposition is that employees are required to spend at least one year with the employer after the probation period. However, this condition can be waived if the employer consents.
