Today, Mumbai witnessed a sharp hike in daily coronavirus cases registering over 20,000 covid cases a span of just 24 hours.
Considering the massive spike since the past two weeks, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had earlier announced that the maximum city is likely to go into lockdown if and when the daily coronavirus cases breach the 20,000 mark. So, Mumbai may announce a complete lockdown from tonight, says sources.
As to break the chain of infection, Mumbai has already banned large gatherings and also placed restrictions on the number of people who can attend events.
Mumbai health officials say that although fresh cases of the omicron type have increased, "only 5%" of patients require medical help and most recover rapidly.
